Central Governments flagship project PM Ujjwala Yojana: Eligibility, Required Documents and Application Process Explained

To improve the lives of economically weaker households, both the Central and State Governments have introduced several welfare schemes. One of the flagship initiatives of the Central Government is the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), under which eligible beneficiaries receive free LPG connections. The scheme aims to provide women from poor households with access to clean cooking fuel, ensuring a safer and smoke-free cooking environment. Millions of families across the country have already benefited from the initiative. Applicants must fulfil the following conditions: The applicant must be a woman.She must be at least 18 years of age .No LPG connection should already exist in the name of any member of her household. Women belonging to eligible categories, including Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) beneficiaries, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G) beneficiaries, members of Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST), tea garden workers, and residents of forest or remote areas, among other eligible economically weaker groups, can apply under the scheme, subject to the eligibility criteria prescribed by the Central Government. Applicants are generally required to submit the following documents: Ration card or family identity proof ,Aadhaar card, completed KYC form , bank account details ,passport-size photograph ,mobile number ,self-declaration and other required declarations .Additional documents may be requested depending on the applicant’s category. Applications can be submitted both online and offline.For online applications, applicants should visit the official PM Ujjwala Yojana website, choose their preferred LPG distributor or oil marketing company, complete the application form, and submit it along with the required documents. Those who wish to apply offline can visit their nearest LPG distributor’s office to submit the application. Applications can also be submitted through a Common Service Centre (CSC). As obtaining a new LPG connection can be expensive, many low-income families are unable to afford one despite the need. Through the PM Ujjwala Yojana, the Central Government seeks to ease this financial burden by providing free LPG connections to eligible households. Applicants who meet the prescribed eligibility criteria can apply for the scheme and avail themselves of its benefits. Location: India
