Siliguri, August 5: In a major anti-narcotics operation, Siliguri Police arrested three persons and seized 259 grams of suspected brown sugar during a raid conducted on Tuesday evening.
Acting on a specific tip-off, a team from Khalpara TOP-II, operating under Siliguri Police Station, carried out a raid on Burdwan Road within the jurisdiction of Siliguri Police Station.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sahjamal (29) and Arshad (18), both residents of Baghmara in Thakurganj, Kishanganj district of Bihar, and Anjum Kausar (33), a resident of Coila Depot in Ward No. 7 of Siliguri.
During the search operation, police recovered 259 grams of brown sugar from the possession of the accused. The narcotic substance was seized following all prescribed legal procedures.
A case has been registered at Siliguri Police Station under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Police officials have initiated a detailed investigation to determine the source of the contraband and identify any wider drug trafficking network linked to the accused.
The successful operation reflects the continued efforts of Siliguri Police to curb the illegal narcotics trade in the region.
